Is It Cold In Here?

Oops, it's been a while since I last posted - sorry about that!

I've been a bit down (to say the least) since my latest health news, and time has gotten away from me. But life goes on, and there is plenty to keep me interested. Observe:

The biggest thing to report around here is that the kind and generous parents are gifting us with a fridge for Christmas. This is a blessed thing, because quite frankly Scott's liberal (and not entirely artistic) application of duct tape to the spots where the shelves used to be is not keeping the food from jumping out at me whenever I open the door. Those darned jars of cranberry compote can pack a serious wallop.

The other big event is that we are gifting us with a stove for Christmas. We could live without the oven - toaster ovens and electric roasters are very handy things - but when the burners stop working, so do I. So we are getting a stove with not only a working oven (and it self cleans!! Heaven!!!) but with five - count them, five! - burners. A high power burner for quick boiling, a low power one for simmering, two regular ones (for, you know, regular stuff), and then a long center burner for poaching fish, or keeping things warm, or roasting marshmallows over, or something. Sky's the limit, folks, because we've got burners to spare!*

But that is not the end of the Holiday Hijinks. Nope, there's more where that came from. We are going to do as many of the insane number of Christmas Traditions as we can manage. We are looking forward to the arrival from NYC of our dear friend Susan. We are looking forward to the New Year arrival of an old beloved friend from D.C. (older by the minute, as he will pass the half-century mark that same week). And possibly the subsequent arrival of my only Girl Cousin. So there is much to look forward to.

Happy Holidays, everyone!!

*well, we will have burners to spare, should the snow let up enough to let us get delivery of said burners next week...
